The Last Song

Have I ever told you that I’m a big fan of Nicholas Sparks' books?

Okay, so I just finished reading one of his novels titled The Last Song. It took me a month to read the first half and took me just two days to read the second half. I find his books start out very slow and don’t pick up any steam until the second half. And, then, voila, things get quite interesting and emotional. And, inevitably, I find myself crying because someone always dies in his novels, you see. Even though I know that the dying person is going to die, I’d be like, please don’t let him or her die. I’d be praying for miracles, along with the other character(s) in the novel. I’d be praying that the author would prove me wrong in my expectation and, for once, let the dying person live. How crazy is that, huh? It’s just a novel after all. I have to laugh at myself sometimes.

By the way, there’s a movie made from it, but I didn’t get to see it. I don’t think it did too well in the theaters, though. But, I sure cried a river when I was reading the last quarter of the book. I’m such a sucker for novels and movies that make me cry or laugh like that. That’s probably why I always wanted to write sad or happy stories.

Th-th-th-th-that’s all folks!

  1. Sounds like the wait was worth it. Slow burners with strong flaming emotional endings can really get ya goin', hmm?

  3. I enjoy Nicholas Sparks also. For some reason, I have always loved a good tear jerker. I just recently red Dear John, and loved it, the movie wasn't bad either, but of course the book was better. I never watch a movie before I read the book.

By the way, I like the new look.

  4. Hello Tasha,

Sorry for not being able to drop by earlier. Been in and out of the hospital with the kids, but thanks God they're better now. Have you seen the movie The Notebook? That movie made me cry a river...lol...Even Danielle Steel has many romance stories that made me cry. But they always end up positively. We should finish the book or the movie with the "feeling good" emotion. Because writers, should have the knack to bring out the positive out of any negative story. Just a thought, I would like you to know for your novel. How is it going by the way? When will we see it in print? Good luck, Take care and hugs.

I like the new template too.

  5. Hi Eric,
The way you write your short stories and poems, I believe you when you say you like tear jerker books and movies also. Tehehe.

My daughter and I went to see Dear John and, of course, we both cried with that too. My daughter was disappointed that the girl didn't wait for John. I think I'm going to read Dear John next, now that you've mentioned it.

I'm glad you like my blog's new look. Everybody in the blogosphere is redecorating, so I thought I should also. LOL.

  6. Hi Jena,
Sorry to hear about your children being in and out of the hospital. I'm so glad that they're okay now. I hope whatever they had won't come back?

Yes, I have read The Notebook. I also saw the movie. That's what got me interested in reading other Nicholas Sparks' books in the first place. Of all his books that I've read so far, the best one is "Three Weeks With My Brother." But this is not a fiction novel. It's somewhat an autobiography. I have every single one of his books. I just have to find time to read them.

One of these days, I have to read a Danielle Steele novel. Do you have a favorite you'd like to recommend?

Thanks for noticing my blog's new look. It really needed some transformation. I like that it now looks more like a website than a blogspot.

  7. I enjoy Nicholas Sparks too. I'm like you, pulling for the person to live and crying when they don't.

  8. I agree with you about most of his novels starting out slow. I really liked "A Walk To Remember" by him though. I loved how the boy changed throughout the book.

  10. Hi Karen,
I liked the movie, so I should like the book also. Infact, I have the book already. I just need to find time to read it.

your blog looks great! Nice and streamlined :)

I also find that the pace in Nicholas Sparks's books is quite slow. And the stories are so sad. I have to have a happy ending :)
